Slip Cast Fused Silica (SCFS) ceramic domes are used to fabricate Radomes for communications by EM waves in GHz frequency range normally used in seeker missiles as nose cones and other RF transmissions. The component is produced by slip casting high purity fused silica (SiO2) powder sintered at 1200 °C. Naskar Ceramic is engaged in production of SCFS domes of designed shapes fitted with a metal bulkhead for ready-made applications.

Typical physical properties of SCFS domes :

Maximum Dimensions : 600 mm dia x 1000 mm height
Density :  1.8 –  2.1 g/cc
Flexural strength (3pt) : 55 – 70 MPa
Dielectric constant at 8-15 GHz : 3.00 –  3.30
Dielectric loss  at 8-15 GHz :  0.002 – 0.005
Application temperature : 800 °C
